1. Witch Hazel. Witch hazel is a natural toner that helps to balance oil production in the skin. Eliminate blackheads by soaking a cotton ball in witch hazel and gently cleanse affected areas. You can do this once or twice a day. This method is good for acne as well.

#1.  Baking Soda and Water

Ok, maybe you have heard of this remedy, but it works so well that is deserves a mention.  Sodium Bicarbonate, or baking soda, is a natural, non-toxic exfoliant that also absorbs excess sebum (oil).  It is also good for healing blemishes more quickly.  Baking soda is especially ideal for those with sensitive skin that cannot normally use facial scrubs.  Creating this remedy is easy as all you need is a little baking soda and water (spring, filtered, or distilled).  Make a thick paste with the water and baking soda, then apply to the face and let it sit for 15 minutes.  Rinse off with warm water and follow with a light moisturizer.

Whether or not you use cucumbers or lemons as your homemade acne remedy depends on personal preference.  Some like to use lemon because it contains more vitamin C and has a pleasant aroma.  But if the acid too harsh for sensitive skin, using a cucumber will be your best bet.

We’ve all heard the maxim, “An apple a day keeps the doctor away”, ad nauseum.  But you probably didn’t know that an apple a day can help keep blackheads at bay.  Apples are wonderful for treating blackheads, as well as keeping breakouts under control, because they contain malic acid.  Malic acid is a natural substance belonging to the alpha hydroxy group found in fruits and vegetables–with apples being one of the richest sources.

Malic acid is so important to any healthy skin care regimen because it creates firmer, smoother skin and helps to remove dead skin cells.  Dead skin, along with oil, is the main blackhead-causing enemy that clogs pores.  Apples, being loaded with malic acid, can be used as a mild exfoliator for dislodging and removing blackheads. Below is a simple and inexpensive facial scrub recipe that will help you achieve a clearer complexion.

To create the exfoliator, you will need a fresh pureed apple, preferably organic and pesticide-free.  If you don’t have a way to puree an apple, simply substitute two tablespoons of unsweetened applesauce.  You will also need one tablespoon of white or brown sugar.  In a small bowl, mix the apple and sugar together until blended well.

Making your strips will require two ingredients that you can easily obtain at your local grocery store.
